Smartphone: The number one ally for networking during a professional event
Why battery failure is a problem underestimated by organizers
During the FDDAY organized by France Digitale, we conducted a micro-pavement to better understand a phenomenon that is as discreet as it is structuring: the total dependence of visitors on their smartphone during a professional event.
And above all, what this dependence implies for the overall experience you offer.
Throughout the interviews, a clear observation emerged: the smartphone has become the backbone of the visitor journey.
However, an essential element threatens this journey. without ever going back to your teams : battery failure.
The smartphone now structures the entire visitor journey
Using a smartphone is no longer a matter of comfort. It has become indispensable for:
- Access your ticket or e-badge
- Scan the QR codes on the stands
- Download or consult the pitch decks
- Exchange via LinkedIn with the people we met
- Manage your agenda and appointments
- Orienting yourself in the event
- Quickly jot down key ideas during conferences
- Photograph the slides and useful information
- Communicate with colleagues present on site
Each exchange conducted during the micro-pavement confirmed it: without a smartphone, the visitor loses a large part of his ability to take advantage of the event.
An invisible problem for organizers: the battery that is failing
The problem most shared by visitors is also the one the organizers never hear about: the fear of running out of battery.
This stress is permanent. It influences behavior long before the battery is really dead.
But it remains invisible.
Visitors do not take the time to report it to the reception and do not share it with you.
The consequences, on the other hand, are very real:
- Networking interrupted
- Contacts not added
- Stands visited more quickly, or even avoided
- Missed conferences
- Early start of the event
Without a smartphone, the visitor loses much of his ability to take advantage of the event.
What battery failure reveals about the experience you are offering
Battery failure is not just an irritant. It is an indicator.
It reveals a mismatch between the proposed experience and the current uses of visitors.
A successful event today is one that facilitates:
- networking,
- the circulation in space,
- access to content,
- interactions between exhibitors and visitors,
- a smooth and frictionless journey.
While the smartphone has become the center of these uses, its battery is now a strategic element.
A silent irritant that is easy to remove in events
Silent irritants are the ones that hinder the visitor experience the most... while completely escaping the organizers' radar.
Battery failure is one of them: it does not generate any formal complaints, but it disrupts networking, limits access to content and considerably reduces the time spent on site. Still, it's one of the easiest problems to get rid of.
Mobile charging solutions, such as phone charging stations for events used by many organizers today, make it possible to offer a smoother experience and to strengthen the engagement of participants without changing the structure of the event. This lever, which is often underestimated, contributes directly to modernising the visitor experience and to meeting current uses.
Capture their data!
Capture them hot!
